The Angola Rodeo!

IMG_7217.JPGI have NEVER seen something as entertaining than the Angola Rodeo. On Sunday,  we got up early and drove to the school to catch a bus and take an hour drive to the Angola Penitentiary. Yes, a prison. At first I was a bit skeptical about this idea, but at the moment I wasn’t aware of the fun that was about to come.

The gates of the penitentiary opened, and al I could see was mounts  off grass and hills, until a small train drove us to the fair. “Be here by 1:45pm” Mr. R said. We got into groups and walked around the fair. We tried everything we could before 1:45pm. One being fried coke. It seems that they try to fry everything around here. Instead of wasting a whole cup of fried coke, we decided to try it in a group. The coke was mixed with a batter and of course fried. When I took a bite out of it, I thought it tasted like a normal doughnut.

After trying some fried coke, we walked around the fair interested in the souvenirs inmates had made. We then went back to meet everyone else at 1:45pm to head to the stadium where the rodeo would take place. After what felt like an hour of announcements, bulls, wild horses, and trucks filled the arena. The last activity was the highlight of the day. The goal of this game was to grab a coin that was attached on the bulls head. Whoever got a hold of this coin would win $1000! It only took a few minutes until the bull charged for an inmate. The inmate was able to grab the coin. He jumped to reveal the coin, and the crowd went wild!

That is one trip I will NEVER forget!
